Adult Protective Services (APS) Dashboards

Kentucky Revised Statues (KRS) 209 establishes the roles and responsibilities of an APS professional, through the Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS), and authorizes APS to investigate allegations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of adults. KRS 209.020 (4) defines an adult as a person eighteen (18) years of age or older who, because of mental or physical dysfunction, is unable to manage his or her own resources, carry out the activity of daily living, or protect himself or herself from neglect, exploitation, or a hazardous or abusive situation without assistance from others, and who may need protective services.

About Our Data

CHFS’s Department for Community Based Services launched a public-facing dashboard in State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2023 to increase transparency and timely access to APS data. The dashboard includes data regarding the age of adults, types of maltreatment, a map of referrals, gender and race. The data presented is based on the adult (also known as alleged victim).

APS data is updated monthly and is subject to change due to additional information obtained over the course of an investigation/assessment. Variations in data may be the result of adult relocation, case closures, and information received from multiple sources on the same adult. The total number of referrals refers to every telephone call, email, fax or web report that was screened by central intake.

Due to changes in data collection over the years trend comparisons may not be entirely comparable. Adult specific, personally identifying information is withheld due to confidentiality requirements.
