Program Description

Specifically designed to reduce the risk of falling; A MATTER OF BALANCE helps stop the fear of falling cycle, and promotes increased activity levels among community-dwelling older adults. The program is presented by certified coaches. Classes are held twice per week for 4 weeks for 2 hours each. A MATTER OF BALANCE uses group discussions, mutual problem solving exercises to improve strength, coordination and balance, and home safety evaluation. This structured group intervention works best with 10 – 12 participants. Nearly all participants (97%) report that as a result of the program they are now more comfortable talking about their fear of falling. Participant outcomes include improved falls management and activity levels up to twelve months after completing the program.
